After repeated delays by Georgia’s Congressional Delegation, construction for the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) in Fort Picket, resumed on February 25th.

FASTC will provide hard-skills security training to State Department personnel and the foreign affairs community. The U.S. Department of State, working with the U.S. General Services Administration ( GSA) worked extensively to conduct environmental studies at Fort Pickett, which showed that the site was suitable for FASTC.

The Commonwealth of Virginia is planning an addition and renovations to the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) in Nottoway County. This expansion will provide residential and treatment space for an additional 183 residents, with the ability to expand to serve another 75 individuals. RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Microsoft Corp. will invest $402.4 million to expand its data center site in Mecklenburg County and increase capacity to serve its growing customer base. Virginia successfully competed against other sites in the U.S. for the project, which will create 42 new jobs. Microsoft’s original project in 2010 involved an investment of up to $499 million and 50 new jobs. In 2011 the company invested an additional $150 million to expand the site, and in 2013 announced a $348 million expansion. In June 2014 Microsoft invested another $346.7 million, creating 90 new jobs.

Jonathan Aberman is the founder and Managing Director of TandemNSI, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia and supported by Arlington County to bring entrepreneurs, universities and national security agencies together to accelerate economic development and national security entrepreneurship in Virginia. He is also the founder and Managing Director of Amplifier Ventures, a seed and early stage venture capital organization that focuses on commercialization of federally-funded intellectual property and national security technologies. Amplifier has launched 15 technology-focused businesses with four exits to date. He is also the founder and President of FounderCorps, a Virginia not-for-profit that provides experienced mentors to entrepreneurs throughout the Greater Washington Region.

VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital held a groundbreaking event on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the future site of the new hospital located at 1755 North Mecklenburg Avenue in South Hill, Virginia. 

The new 166,700 square foot technologically-advanced facility will feature 70 private patient rooms and baths, including 10 intensive-coronary care rooms, four LDRPs (single room obstetrical care) and bariatric rooms that are specially equipped with ceiling mounted lifts to ensure patient and staff safety.
